What does garbage disposal repair involve?

We start by working out whether the motor is alive. A disposal that hums has power but a jammed grinding plate, which usually clears by freeing the flywheel and resetting the unit. A disposal that is silent has lost power, tripped its reset, or burned out. A disposal that leaks tells us where from: the sink flange, the dishwasher inlet, or the body itself, which is the one that ends the unit.

Garbage disposal humming but not spinning

That hum means the motor is trying and something is stopping it. Most often it is a bone, a fruit pit, a bottle cap or a piece of cutlery wedged between the impeller and the grind ring. Freeing the flywheel and pressing the reset button on the bottom brings most of them back. Leaving it humming is what burns the motor out, so switch it off until it is cleared.

What kills a garbage disposal early?

Three things. Hard objects that jam the plate and cook the motor. Fibrous waste like celery, onion skins and corn husks that wrap the impeller instead of shredding. And grease, which goes down warm and hardens further along the line, which is a drain problem rather than a disposal one. A disposal that is regularly jammed usually points at what is going into it.

Faucet repair and replacement

A dripping faucet is normally a worn cartridge, washer or seat, and replacing that part is cheaper than replacing the faucet. Low flow at one tap is usually a clogged aerator or a failing supply valve. A faucet that is corroded at the base, or a discontinued model with no parts available, is the point where replacing the whole unit is the better spend.

Toilets, shut-off valves and other fixtures

A toilet that runs is wasting water quietly, and it is usually a flapper or a fill valve. A toilet that rocks needs the flange and wax seal looked at before it leaks into the floor. Angle stops under sinks and toilets seize with age and then will not close when you actually need them. We replace those while we are there, because a working shut-off is what limits the next emergency.

Why does a new faucet still drip?

Usually because the drip was never the faucet. High water pressure in the house, grit left in the line after other work, or a supply valve that does not fully close will all make a brand new fixture weep. Swapping the fixture again does not fix any of those. We check the pressure and the supply side before assuming the new part is faulty.

Small plumbing jobs are where corners get cut, because the ticket is low and the temptation is to be quick. We would rather do the job once. That means checking the shut-off actually holds before we start, protecting the cabinet, testing under real flow afterward, and telling you if we spot something else worth watching rather than quietly leaving it.
